TOMAKE...
Start with a square piece of paper. To do
this, fold the corners of a sheet of paper
up to meet the opposite sides and cut the
top off, making a square sheet with
diagonal creases.
Fold the four corners of the square into the
center. Turn the resulting smaller square
over and fold the four corners into the
center a second time.
Fold the square in half, then unfold and fold
in half the other way. All four corners are
then folded up so that the points meet in
the middle. The player works their fingers
into the pockets of paper in each of the
four corners.
Write a different color on each of the four
flaps. Turn it over, and then number each of
the triangular flaps. Open up the triangular
flaps and write a“fortune”underneath each
of the numbers. Tailor the fortunes depend-
ing on the age and personality of the kids
playing.“You’ll hit a home run.”“Be kind to
your sister; she will be kind in return.”
The new year is a great time to ponder the future.
Get your kids in on the action by making a simple
origami fortune teller. If it’s been a while since
you’ve made one—like 30 years—don’t worry.
We’ve got a refresher for you.
