What advice would you give your
younger mom self—what do you wish
you knew then that you know now?
Pick your battles and avoid power
struggles. Sometimes it’s ok to let them
eat the ice cream before dinner.
They say that everyone has a book in
them. What would your book be about?
That’s a difficult question! I feel that I have
had some pretty unique experiences in my
life that it’s hard to pick just one. I spent a
few years working in a residential facility
for children with mental health issues. My
experience there could definitely fill a
book, and not only with sharing the more
wild stories, but also with sharing the
stories of success, resiliency and strength
of the children I worked with.
My surrogacy journey is another book I
have inside of me. This would be a book
about hope and trust and taking chances;
about strangers becoming family; about
love and selflessness; and, of course, about
babies and creating families. Surrogacy is
still so unknown that many people have
false perceptions and ideas of what it is
and how it actually works. My story would
enlighten people to the truth about
surrogacy and share what it’s really all
about: love and family.
What message or advice would you like
to share with other moms?
There are so many different ways to be a
good mom. Go easy on yourself and on
other moms. We already have the whole
world trying to judge our parenting and
make us feel like we aren’t good enough.
Don’t add to it. Lift up other moms instead
of trying to drag them down. Don’t be a
mom bully!
