Natalie Him
Gets real!
Cover MOM
Family comes first.
All families are unique. Tell us about yours.
My husband and I have been together for 15
years. My husband brought three beautiful
children into our relationship and we
completed our family with three more. Having
five still living at home presents new
challenges and joys daily. We have our beloved
13-year-old chihuahua, Bogie, and our
13-year-old cat, Monroe. We recently moved
from the city to a farm, so life has changed for
us quite a bit. We board horses on our property,
so we have three horses that have become a
part of our family this last year too: Tommy Girl,
Fire and Jack. My husband works a regular job
and then has a side business, so he is a busy
man, and I am blessed to be a stay-at-home
mom for the last eight years and be able to do
a lot of volunteer work. Before becoming a
stay-at-home mom I was in the coffee business.
Every family has their own traditions,
rituals or inside jokes. What’s one of yours?
Dinner. Sitting down on most nights, around
the table, all together to share in a meal—
unless it’s sports season, that’s a little harder.
We always do something we call high/low.
Even if you are a guest at our home, we have
them do this too. We all have to have a high,
because we all choose our own happiness, but
you don’t have to have a low. Not that it’s not
crazy at the dinner table with all of them, but
it’s great. I love when the kids’friends come
over and ask,“Do we get to do our high/lows?”
It makes my heart happy. My high today was
being with my niece on her birthday and the
low was Legend being up all night and not
getting any sleep.
Your biggest wish for your kids is…
To be happy, kind, caring and loving humans to
others.
No one works harder
than mom.
We know that being a mom is a full-time
job. Tell us about your work or
volunteerism outside of the home.
Most of my time during the last eight years has
been split between two places: Our Savior’s
Christian Elementary and Lacrosse.
Our son, Peyten went to the amazing Ark
Angels preschool and attended half-day
kindergarten there as well. He also attended
our kindergarten at our local elementary
school in the afternoon. After only about a
month, it was clear it wasn’t working for him,
due to larger class sizes and other reasons. Ark
Angels preschool had been like family so I
asked the director if there were any plans to
open an elementary school. She said that was
one of our pastor’s dreams, so I said“Well, let’s
make it a reality.” To make a really long story
short, I had a fewmeetings with Pastor Don, he
got the blessing from the congregation and we
were off and running gathering moms and
educators to create and build an elementary
school. We started off with a first/second grade
split and added a grade every year. Now Ark
Angels is the preschool and Our Savior’s
Christian is a full elementary school offering

With a family of six children, three horses, a dog and cat, you might say
that Cover MOM Natalie Him doesn’t horse around. In fact, she takes
multitasking to a new level. But she reminds moms to slow down and
“snuggle your babies, enjoy your kids, hold on for dear life in those
teenage years and try not to cry too much when they leave the nest.”
