When manufactures are able to use the recycled paper, glass and cans we provide from our homes,
it greatly reduces energy use and pollution of our air and water. 98% less energy is needed to make
aluminum products when they can use the beverage cans we provide. 74% percent less energy is
needed to make paper when recycled materials are used. Last year alone, Lane County communities
recycled enough to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 664,900 metric tons of CO2
equivalents. That’s equivalent to taking 139,995 passenger vehicles off the road for a full year.
But remember
,
Materials provided for recycling must be clean and must be only those materials asked for by
your collection service. Putting items in the recycling that are not specifically stated on program
materials or signs causes real damage to recycling systems.
