DURING TRAVEL
Airports now offer a much better selection
of healthy food“to-go”boxes to take on the
plane including fresh salads, fruit and
sandwiches.
It is important that you and your children
stay hydrated. Purchase water bottles or fill
ones that you bring (empty) yourself after
going through security as it may be quite a
while until you get served on the flight.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine as these will
dehydrate you. Adults who take diuretics
(water pills) for chronic illnesses such as
high blood pressure/heart disease are
prone to dehydration and must be extra
careful. Try and walk around and stretch
during flights. When changing planes,
encourage kids to skip and hop. Most
airports have some sort of a play area for
kids. Look up the airports you will be flying
through ahead of time to find the locations.
If there is no play area, look for an empty
hallway and let the kids run. Packing a small
soft football or Frisbee can help create
active family fun in any location.
I hope these tips will help to make your
travels as healthy as possible!
Vacation MOM is brought to you in
partnership with Eugene Airport. See their
