Don’t forget to write
For a child at sleepaway camp, letters from home are like gold. But if it’s been a while since
you’ve written a letter—except for texts and Facebook posts—have no fear, just follow
these tips for great camp letters.
Be early.
You never know how long the mail will take to arrive and, if your child
is only away for a short while, you don’t want your letter(s) to arrive late. So send your first
letter before your child departs for camp to guarantee they’ll have a loving message from
home during the first few days of camp.
Be frequent.
This is one of the few times when it’s all about quantity, not
quality. Campers love hearing their name called when mail arrives, so it’s better to send
several short notes than one long-winded letter.
Be a team.
You don’t have to do this alone, get everyone in on the action.
Share your camper’s address with grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors.
Be creative.
Keep it fun by sending letters from the family dog, bunny or
fish; channel your inner David Letterman and come up with the Top 10 Things We Love
About You list; send a message that needs to be decoded, or include a riddle and
encourage your camper to write back with the answer. Whatever you do, you’ll bring a
smile to their face.
