What
pack
Most camps provide a comprehensive
packing list as a guide. Still, things are left at
home, so double check that you’ve packed
these items that are often left behind:
Toothbrush:
Believe it or not, this is the
most commonly forgotten item.
Camera:
Make sure to pack a disposable
or very inexpensive camera you don’t mind
losing.
Swimsuit:
It doesn’t hurt to pack a
second suit to wear while the other is
drying.
Underwear:
Make sure to pack more
than one pair of underwear and socks per
day. Stuff happens; things get dirty and wet.
Sunscreen:
Pack two small bottles
rather than one big one in case it gets lost.
Rain gear:
If your camp is in the
Northwest, be prepared with a rain poncho,
just in case.
What to pack
The only thing you should expect to come
home is a happy camper and a lifetime of
memories. Assume everything else will get
So be sure not to pack the
following.
Electronics:
Cell phones, iPads, laptops
or expensive cameras are not invited to
camp.
New shoes:
No one wants blisters on
the first day of camp, so be sure shoes are
nicely worn-in before heading to camp.
to pack
Here are some packing tips to keep your
camper organized.
Pack an outfit a day.
Put individual
outfits—shorts, t-shirt, underwear, socks—
together for each day. You can either roll
them up and band them with a rubber
band, or pack them inside a large Ziploc
bag, which can be used at the end of the
day to hold the day’s dirty clothes.
Pack like items together
. If your
child wants more control over their daily
outfits, pack large zip lock bags each with
enough of one item, like socks, underwear,
t-shirts, or shorts to last the length of camp.
Mark each bag with contents and quantity.
Pack shower supplies and toiletries in a
plastic bucket or shower container so they
can easily be transported to and from the
bathroom.
However you pack, be sure to pack extra
plastic bags to store soiled and wet clothes
so they don’t ruin the clean clothes in the
bag.
